The Halal Eats Admin team had sent an email inquiry to La Cocina company on whether their products were Halal or Kosher friendly. While they made no claim of being Halal or Kosher as they could not provide any Halal certification, they did mention that there were no animal products or ingredients used for making their tortilla chips or corn tortillas. The enzymes used are plant derived. Please see the screenshot of the email for further proof. We appreciate the company for being transparent and answering our questions.

We received a response to an email we had sent to Kellogg’s on the Halal, Kosher and Vegetarian status of their protein waffle product, specifically the Chocolate Brownie one. They responded that the product is not Halal certified and is neither vegetarian but it definitely is Kosher certified (OU-D Kosher code). Going through the list of ingredients, we found no alcohol listed as well. We appreciate Kellogg’s/Kellanova for their transparency in answering our inquiry.

We received a response to an email we had sent to Marble Slab Creamery on the halal status of their ice creams and frozen yogurt products. In the email, it was mentioned that there were no animal by-product ingredients. They have also mentioned that they’re certified Kosher. We appreciate Marble Slab Creamery for their transparency in answering our inquiry.

That being said, the conflict for some may be the fact that the coloured dyes used for their products contain less than 1% alcohol. Certain madhabs may deem this “Haram” while others say it is “Halal”. The reasoning for it being considered Halal by other madhabs is that the alcohol use was not for the purpose of intoxication (khamr).
